Expectations For Ma100 Students:
Like other classes, you will need to work outside normal class hours to successfully learn skills necessary to pass the course. A special feature of this class is that there are multiple resources available to help you. You are your number one resource. The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics. Your grade is dependent upon your willingness to engage in doing the work and to take advantage of resources available to you. With the help of the software, MyMathLab, you will become active learners, working computer-based exercises that immediately show you how you are doing as you practice problems. Take advantage of the many features of the software: listen and watch explanations, practice problems, explore concepts. Although you will have the option of installing the software on your home computer, you will be required to spend a certain amount of time working in the Mathematics Technology Learning Center (MTLC). Experience has shown that these requirements represent a minimal amount of time needed to succeed in the course and are in place to help you structure your time. You will have the flexibility to choose the times of day that are most convenient and effective for you to work in the MTLC. Another tremendous advantage of working in the MTLC is that instructors and instructor assistants will be available in the MTLC at all times to give you personal instructional assistance, working with you as partners in your goal to conquer Math 100. Take advantage of this resource! We all want the same thing: for you to successfully complete the course. Another "requirement" that actually will be a valuable resource for you is that you will be required to meet with your instructor and fellow classmates once a week. These meetings will provide you the math concepts that are covered in the week as well as an opportunity to discuss your learning experience and to learn strategies required to become successful in this course and in future courses. In this course, you will have the opportunity to acquire and demonstrate your abilities to be a self-motivated, active, and responsible learner.
